Vitra is a company designing and producing furniture. Its mission is to develop healthy, intelligent, inspiring and durable solutions for the office, home or public spaces.
The products and concepts are developed in Switzerland. Thanks to the diligent design process, the company´s engineering excellence is brought with the creative genius of leading international designers. The main aim of Vitra is to create high functional and aesthetic products.
All integral elements of the Vitra Project (The Vitra Campus architecture, the Vitra Design Museum, workshops, publications, collections and archives) gave Vitra the opportunity to gain perspective and depth in all of its creative activities.
Nowadays, companies are expected to take on ecological, social and economic responsibility. They are judged on these and often criticized. Vitra doesn´t feel to be forced to follow these “rules”, but it considers it as an aspect of design that has always been a part of the company´s industrial culture.
Vitra´s approach to sustainability was influenced by Charles & Ray Eames whose traditions have been followed.
The basement for manufacturing of sustainable products is an intense pre-production development. Vitra selects the highest-grade materials and carries out the tests which simulate 15 years of use. Individual components should be easily replaceable and ultimately recyclable.
In 1986, a work group called “Vitra and the Environment” was formed. It was formed in order to enforce and monitor sustainable development in all business activities of the company. Thanks to this, Vitra can proudly claim that it has been dedicated to sustainability for nearly 25 years. The internal and external audits are realized as additional verification that all measures are continuously developed.
